Hello My boyfriend woke up this morning not feeling well. He has been throwing up since this morning, he can t seem to keep anything down. He has no fever, his forehead feels cold to the touch. He said he is sweating but cold. He tryed eating some soup broth and it also came up. My worry is he is 40 years old, he had a heart attack in 2013. He is not complain of chest pains or anything. General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is important for your boyfriend to have oral rehydration solutions (over the counter in the pharmacy) to help substitute the liquid and electrolyte loss. He should take them in frequent small amount like a tablespoon every 10 minutes. Taking frequent small amounts reduces nausea and increases the chance of the fluids being absorbed. Tablets to reduce the vomiting can be taken like Metoclopramide but they are generally given with prescription and are not over the counter.

Meanwhile, it is important to rest and even if he does not eat at least he should drink plenty of that oral rehydration solution. In case he is eating it is good to take BRAT diet (banana, rice, apple, toast) in frequent small amount.

If no improvement in a day or two or if any worsening he will need to see the doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
